Assistant Trainee (Bonnyville & Edmonton)
Job Description
Reporting to the Slickline Operator and Operator Assistant, the Trainee supports slickline or SRO (Surface Read Out system) field operations while learning the skills and responsibilities required to advance. This is an entry-level position in the industry and involves hands-on field work. Duties include assisting with equipment preparation, rig-up and rig-out, basic tool handling, general field and shop support as directed.
The Trainee must be fit for duty and is expected to follow direction and perform all tasks safely. They are committed to developing safe work habits, skills, and an understanding of operations.
Responsibilities include assisting with the cleaning, handling, inspection, and maintenance of slickline equipment, and helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the field and in the shop. The Trainee may support technical tasks and completing documentation as directed.
The Assistant Trainee must be prepared to work long days outdoors in all weather conditions and in environments that involve typical oilfield hazards, pressure, suspended loads, and heavy equipment. This role may involve safely driving company vehicles to and from field locations, often for extended distances and hours. This is a field-based position that includes work-related travel, participation in on-call schedules, and periods of work away from home.
This role is intended with the expectation that the Assistant Trainee will actively develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits required to advance to an Operator Assistant role. They must be able to work as part of a team, communicate effectively, accept coaching, and contribute positively to crew performance on location and in the shop.
The Trainee participates in the company’s health and safety program, including hazard assessments, safety meetings, inspections, incident reporting, and required training.
